Encouraging students who experience reading difficulties to engage with audiobooks can be a transformative strategy. By removing the barrier of decoding, these learners gain access to the same stories and information as their peers—a powerful and inclusive gift. Listening to fluent narration introduces them to new vocabulary, complex language structures, and appropriate intonation, all without the pressure and stress often associated with reading.

Audiobooks can be enjoyed in the car during family road trips, while building Lego after school,  when cleaning up, or even during a relaxing bath at the end of a busy day. A student’s reading ability need not limit their engagement with rich, age-appropriate texts.

If your students have a Tasmanian library card, they can access a range of great audiobooks on the Libby app totally free!
