Social Skills
& Pragmatics
It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.
Pragmatics refers to how we use language, gestures, tone of voice, facial expression and body language to convey intentions and achieve communicative functions.
When we communicate, our intention dictates the choices we make about how to send the message. Do we want to sound serious or joking? Do we need to give information or request information? Do we want to express an emotion or hide an emotion?

Communication Help
for Neurodiverse People
Differences in the development of pragmatic language skills are common in neurodivergent individuals, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Pragmatic skills involve using language effectively in social contexts, such as understanding social cues, taking turns in conversation, or recognising nonverbal communication.
Challenges in this area can significantly impact social communication, making it difficult to form and maintain relationships, participate in educational or social activities, and can negatively affect self-esteem and emotional well-being, leading to feelings of isolation.
