How Speech Pathology Helps Stuttering!
At Speech Pathology Tasmania, we use a range of evidence-based approaches to treat stuttering in both children and adults.
For young children, the Lidcombe Stuttering Program is an effective tool, focusing on encouraging smooth speech through structured feedback.
Older children and adults can benefit from approaches like the Camperdown Program, which targets fluency through tailored speech exercises and techniques.
Our team also employs smooth speech strategies to help improve fluency in everyday communication. No matter the age, it is never too late to seek support for a stutter, and our compassionate therapists are here to help.

Stuttering Signs & Symptoms
Stuttering is characterised by interruptions in the flow of speech, which can present in various ways.
These include:
- Repetition of sounds in words (e.g. p-p-p-pig)
- Repetition of syllables (e.g. le-le-lego)
- Repetition of whole words (e.g. my my my turn)
- Prolongation of sounds (e.g. ssssocks)
- Blocks or disruptions of airflow (e.g. b….ag)
These symptoms may occur alongside secondary physical signs, such as excessive muscle tension or facial grimaces. If you notice any of these signs in your child, early intervention is crucial.
